How do you illustrate the horrors of the Holocaust on stage?
That was the creative challenge faced by Dutch Theatre company Hotel Modern when they set out to stage Kamp, a harrowing story of life and death in the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp during World War II. The unique object theatre production uses a painstakingly crafted 36’0 x 33’0 foot model of Auschwitz, complete with barracks, guard towers, crematoriums, train tracks and even the horrific gas chambers. The audience surrounds the model during the performance, which consists of as team of three performers bringing to life three thousand miniature figures using a combination of puppetry and camera movement.
It sounds like a truly unique and haunting theatrical experience. You can learn more at Emirates 24/7.
