When it was announced last year that Heather Henson and Toby Froud were producing a short film called Lessons Learned the puppet/Muppet/Henson interwebs went a little crazy at the idea of a “next generation” Henson/Froud collaboration (the first, of course having produced The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth). That enthusiasm translated in to a $53,330 Kickstarter campaign – more than double Toby’s original goal of $25,000 – and now a fully completed short, the trailer for which you can watch above.
Here’s a description of the film from Toby:
“Lessons Learned” is a short film about a young boy receiving an intriguing birthday gift from his grandfather. This gift will stay with him for the rest of his life as he stumbles from his grandfather’s cottage to a layered world of trials and danger.
Lessons Learned was produced as part of the Handmade Puppet Dreams film series. Look for it on the film festival circuit and at Handmade Puppet Dreams film screenings later this year!
7/6/14 Update: The first screening of Lessons Learned has been announced! Toby Ford – along with most of the film’s crew and his parents Brian and Wendy Froud – will attend the film’s premiere at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon on June 21st. Tickets are available to order online.
5/1/15 Update: Lessons Learned is now available to purchase on Vimeo via the embedded video above.
